NYPA and Brenmiller Energy, recipients of BIRD Energy funding, collaborated on a project to develop and test thermal energy storage with combined heat and power (CHP).
In December 2023, the companies successfully commissioned the bGen thermal storage co-generation station at the State University of New York (SUNY), marking a milestone in enhancing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This project, funded by BIRD Energy, showcases a promising future for widespread adoption of the bGen system, estimated to eliminate 550 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
