Focused Ultrasound Surgery Foundation
InSightec Ltd. (Israel) and the Focused Ultrasound Surgery Foundation (Charlottesville, VA) partnered to develop a device for non-invasive brain surgery for people with movement disorders. The final product “ExAblate” was funded by the BIRD Foundation and was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2016 to treat essential tremor in patients who have not responded to medication. ExAblate significantly improves tremors and quality of life in patients with essential tremor, the most common movement disorder.
